Burna Boy was helped by Drake in 2017 as he had been an ordinary artist for many years.
Around that year, Burna Boy had just been gaining fame and he attracted the attention of Canadian rap star, Drake.
In 2016, Drake’s foray into afro and Caribbean sounds for his album, “Views” geared lots of success. His track with Wizkid “One Dance” was one of the best of that Era.
The following year, Drake wanted to repeat the same thing and he asked afro singers to submit some tracks for review.
Burna Boy, Odowgu submitted five songs. One of the songs was “More Life”, the first track in the album he was to drop later on.
To his utmost surprise, Odowgu songs were picked. All the five songs! Drake didn’t end up using all the materials he submitted, he only chopped out some part of it and added some little changes. He eventually named the album “More Life”.
This kind of gesture was an opportunity for Burna Boy as the self acclaimed African giant republished the materials he sent to Drake and made an album of it in 2018.
The album marked the beginning of Burna era as he was recognized worldwide moments later. He got nominated for grammy in 2020 and won the award in 2021.
